Excerpts from Outsell, Inc.'s Newsdesk review, authored by Heidi Longaberger and released September 30, 2011, follow: "Newsdesk offers a broad list of sources and appeals to just about anyone with constant information needs, including the Fortune 2000, public relations firms, media firms, marketing departments, researchers and consultants... Newsdesk aggregates content from social media platforms, trade and industry publications, consumer sources, press wires, local and national press, and licensed national print publications and broadcast... also robust in the amount of international coverage provided...

"This reviewer likes to jump in and start using a new data service much like a child wants to play with her new game... without reading the directions first. So initially the interface seemed almost an embarrassment of riches with all the filtering choices. But once this user entered searches and consulted the online Help menu when needed, the functionality became not only apparent, but also a lot of fun...

"Sharing the content between Newsdesk subscribers and non-subscribers, through e-mail, Alerts, Newsletters and export, is a valuable option... Targeted search features and refinement options are plentiful... Coverage from sources originating around the globe, plus many non-English language options, make this a truly international offering... Media options go outside the typical coverage of blogs and online new[s] sites, to include the lesser acknowledged photos, microblogs, podcasts and wikis. Analytics features are easy to use and provide a quick way to spot trends and provide comparisons...

"Newsdesk shines when it comes to delivering almost real-time international news, opinion and data from both traditional and non-traditional online media sources..."

Excerpts from FreePint's independent review of Newsdesk, authored by Penny Crossland and released November 2010, follow: "... uses new technology, an improved search engine and incorporates several new features such as increased faceted search capabilities, more filters to refine searches and analytical tools... appeals to both end-users and experienced business searchers, by using standard search engine facilities and faceted search tools. It is a particularly useful tool for media monitoring, corporate marketing and marketing communications departments and can be embedded into corporate intranets...

"... social media coverage is impressive... news coverage spans numerous industry sectors... According to the vendor around 40,000 online news sources are monitored, however there is an overlap between sources when it comes to sector coverage. Analysed by industry sector, the number of sources is considerably more, reaching around 90,000... strength lies in its near real-time access to news... interface has an attractive layout and is easy to navigate...

"powerful search tool, providing users with links to global and authoritative sources on the web. One of its many strengths lies in the myriad of social media sources it aggregates. Searching is user-friendly and numerous filters result in targeted results—considerably more targeted than any web search engine could produce... The email and newsletter facilities make [Newsdesk] a useful tool for sharing information within corporations."

Prolific content provider. According to a paidContent:UK June 28, 2010 report, "the BBC is already the number-five giver of readers to UK commercial newspaper websites.
